Lent 16 ~ The Little Way

16

You aspire to great things? Begin with little ones.   ~  St Augustine

I’ve always interpreted quotes like this to mean doing the things the world at large takes for granted and values little. To do little things but with great love. To go where others would rather stay away from. That sort of thing.

Today, Someone teaches me that the little way could also mean to work in way that does not seek to draw attention to yourself. So, one could also be in the great arenas of life, working in high positions even, but striving to do everything without being led by the self. But then I thought of politicians, celebrities, public personas … How do you walk the little way when you’re in the limelight? Does it mean you never do? Or is it something you attempt on occasion?

Again, Someone responds, Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you do, you walk the little way when you let God lead.

We are as little as much as we allow God to lead us.
