Even when there are a thousand things to do, cherish these unrushed moments. Make room in your heart for them. There will be many mountains to climb, but always make time to find the pastures where you can rest. ~ Morgan Harper Nichols
It should have been obvious – but not to me, not till now. Today, seeing those words, cherish these unrushed moments, my thoughts go to 1 Kings 19, and my spirit sees a light.
There was a strong and violent wind rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD—but the LORD was not in the wind; after the wind, an earthquake—but the LORD was not in the earthquake; after the earthquake, fire—but the LORD was not in the fire; after the fire, a light silent sound. ~ 1 Kings 19: 11 – 12
For some years now, 1 Kings 19 has been a hand put out to me when I least expect it, to pause me in my hurried step, to bring me God’s own Heart. Each time, God has spoken through its verses to remind me to heed His timing.
Today, though, I see something new:
A light silent sound
The sound of a heart at rest
God will not be in the howling, ever shifting winds of agitation, neither will He be in the shocking earthquakes of upheavals nor in the fires of anger and frustrations. But He will be found in the stillness that learns to be untroubled by unanswered questions, blighted hopes and disappointments.
When the heart truly, truly rests, that is when we will find Him.
Beautifully written post!!! Thank you for sharing this today! 🙂

It is true! It is not the rushing wind but the whisper of a gentle breeze when we hear the voice of God… Hope your heart can rest and God will dwell there and whisper words of love and encouragement. ❤

The Lord is again pointing to radical trust. It’s almost as if we have to shut our eyes and ears and make our way to Him blind yet guided by the inner light He places within each one of us, deaf but able to now hear His gentle instructions from our depths.

I loved both the quote and the scripture! Both are true, and both are things I needed to hear. Thank you!

His word comes to us just when we need it. As with you, both did me good too, Ann. God is in every area of our lives and I know He can speak to us through every situation. Nonetheless, as there are seasons for everything, I think there are also times when He will allow us to find Him only in still waters.
